We find physicians and dentists are often surprised to learn that many states offer loan forgiveness on their student loans. To make things easier for Doctors, we’ve consolidated many of the programs we’re aware of below, sorted alphabetically by state. We’ve only listed programs that doctors or dentists are eligible for.
Each program and state are different. Some states have programs, others do not. Some are substantial, others are smaller. They all add up so please check your state below for details. You’ll find many of the programs require you work in an underserved area. Many of the programs are for specific types of doctors-- most commonly primary care physicians and dentists—but not always. Some forgiveness is taxable and some tax exempt depending on the state.
